Centre Approves Rs 10,021 Crore for Rural Housing in 12 States

To achieve the goal of 'Housing for All' by March 2029, the Union Minister for Rural Development, Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, approved a sanction of Rs 10,021.42 crore to 12 states under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) on May 28. The approval was issued via video conferencing to the states of Assam, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh.

"When a house is good, life becomes easier. We are not merely constructing houses, but creating homes supported by basic amenities such as roads, electricity, drinking water, LPG connections, and toilets," Shri Chouhan said, as reported by PIB. He added that the government is continuously working to improve the quality of life of rural families through convergence with various welfare schemes.

Overview

PMAY-G is a rural housing programme of the Ministry of Rural Development. It aims to provide a pucca house with basic amenities to all houseless households and those living in kutcha or dilapidated houses in rural areas.

Direct Benefit Transfer

The amount is transferred directly to the Aadhaar-linked bank account or post-office account of the beneficiary.

Minimum Size

The minimum size of houses under PMAY-G is 25 square meters, including a dedicated area for hygienic cooking. This addresses the housing deficit in rural India, contributing significantly to the mission of 'Housing for All'.

Beneficiaries

Beneficiaries are identified using the Socio-Economic and Caste Census (SECC) parameters and verified by the Gram Sabhas.

Application Process

To apply for the scheme, follow these steps:

  • Visit the official website and log in.
  • Fill in the required personal details such as gender, mobile number, and Aadhaar number.
  • Upload the consent form required to use the Aadhaar number.
  • Click on the search button to find the beneficiary name, PMAY ID, and priority.
  • Click on 'Select to Register' and the beneficiary details will be automatically generated and displayed.
  • Fill in remaining details such as ownership type, relation, and Aadhaar number.
  • Upload the consent form for Aadhaar use on behalf of the beneficiary.
  • Add beneficiary account details like bank account number.
  • If the beneficiary wants a loan, select 'Yes' and enter the required loan amount.
  • Enter the MGNREGA job card number and Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) number.
  • The next section will be filled by the concerned office.

Documents Required

  • Aadhaar number and a self-attested copy of the Aadhaar card (if illiterate, a consent letter with thumbprint is needed).
  • Job card duly registered with MGNREGA.
  • Bank account details.
  • Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) number.
  • Affidavit stating that the beneficiary or family members do not own a pucca house.

Current Status of the Scheme

Shri Chouhan stated that approvals for 3.91 crore houses against the target of 4.95 crore houses have been accorded, and construction of more than 3.05 crore houses has been completed.
