Yelahanka Flyover September Deadline Set by GBA Chief

GBA Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao Directs September Completion for Yelahanka Flyover Project

Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) Chief Commissioner Maheshwar Rao has issued a firm directive to officials, setting a strict deadline for the completion of the Yelahanka flyover project by the end of September. During a comprehensive inspection tour of various locations within the Bengaluru North City Corporation limits on Saturday, Rao emphasized the urgency of finishing the remaining work on this crucial infrastructure development.

Current Progress and Construction Details

The 2-kilometer-long flyover on Doddaballapur Main Road has achieved approximately 70 percent completion, leaving about 30 percent of work still pending. Rao instructed both officials and contractors to accelerate their efforts and ensure all remaining tasks are completed within the stipulated September timeline.

Key construction statistics reveal:

  • The project includes a total of 56 pillars, with 51 pillars already constructed
  • Out of 447 segments planned, 351 have been successfully erected
  • 96 segments remain pending installation

Due to continuous vehicular movement on the road, segment erection work is being strategically carried out only during night hours to minimize disruption to daily traffic flow. Rao specifically directed officials to resolve any related issues, increase the pace of work, and implement appropriate measures to complete the project at the earliest possible date.

Hennur-Bagalur Road White-Topping Progress

In addition to the flyover project, Commissioner Rao provided updates on the Hennur-Bagalur Road white-topping work, announcing that this project would be completed within the next 15 days and subsequently opened for public use.

"On the 5-kilometer stretch, white-topping has been completed on 4 kilometers on one side of the road," Rao stated. "Work on the remaining 1 kilometer will be completed in 15 days."

However, he noted that white-topping work on the opposite side of the road has not yet been initiated, indicating that further phases of improvement will follow the initial completion.

Land Development and Infrastructure Initiatives

During his inspection tour, Commissioner Rao visited a 5-acre Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) land parcel near Hennur Bande and issued specific directives for its development. He instructed officials to facilitate the transfer of this land to the city corporation and transform it into a well-equipped playground.

The development plan includes:

  1. Planting saplings around the entire site perimeter
  2. Constructing a dedicated walking track for residents
  3. Creating recreational facilities for community use

Rao also identified a 3-acre BDA land parcel in HBR Layout 1st Stage that should be transferred to the city corporation. For this location, he proposed developing a designated vending zone for street vendors while creating a park in the central portion of the land, demonstrating a balanced approach to urban development that accommodates both commercial activity and green spaces.

Railway Underbridge Status and Land Acquisition Challenges

The railway underbridge (RUB) work at Yelahanka has seen partial completion, with one side already finished. However, work on the opposite side has been stalled midway due to ongoing land acquisition issues that require resolution.

Commissioner Rao instructed officials to actively address these railway land-related challenges, complete the remaining RUB work at the earliest opportunity, and take necessary steps to widen the road for improved traffic management. These directives highlight the comprehensive approach being taken to address multiple infrastructure challenges simultaneously across Bengaluru's northern sectors.
