Vijayawada Municipal Corporation Launches Major Road Widening Project on PVP Mall Road

In a significant development aimed at improving urban mobility, the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) has initiated comprehensive road-widening works along the crucial PVP Mall Road. This vital arterial stretch connects the bustling MG Road area with key destinations including Moghalarajpuram Jammi Chettu Centre and Pinnamaneni Polyclinic Road, serving as a lifeline for thousands of residents and daily commuters.

Project Scope and Impact on Structures

As per the official master plan, the road is being systematically expanded from its current width of 50 feet to 60 feet. The ambitious project, which covers a distance of 1.3 kilometres from PVP Mall to Jammi Chettu Centre, will have a notable impact on the urban landscape. According to the VMC's town planning wing, a total of 50 structures are slated to be affected, comprising 48 private buildings and 2 municipal properties.

VMC circle III assistant city planner P Mohan Babu provided detailed insights into the project's progress. He stated, "The town planning wing plans to complete the road-widening works within 15 days. Encroachments on either side have already been cleared, and a civil survey is underway to identify the exact extent of structures to be demolished." This proactive approach underscores the corporation's commitment to efficient urban development.

Addressing Traffic Congestion and Infrastructure Challenges

Over recent years, PVP Mall Road has transformed into a highly congested corridor, densely populated with numerous commercial outlets, food establishments, and educational institutions. This concentration of activity has led to persistent traffic bottlenecks, prompting the need for infrastructural upgrades. Mohan Babu highlighted that preliminary surveys revealed inconsistent road widths along the stretch, with some sections measuring as narrow as 30 feet, while others varied between 30 and 55 feet.

To mitigate these issues, the entire road will be uniformly widened to 60 feet in alignment with the master plan. Mohan Babu assured that "TDR bonds as per government norms will be issued to owners of buildings earmarked for demolition," ensuring fair compensation and adherence to regulatory frameworks. With active cooperation from local residents, the VMC anticipates that all construction activities will be finalized by the first week of February, marking a timely enhancement to the city's infrastructure.

This strategic initiative by the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation not only aims to alleviate traffic congestion but also reflects a broader vision for sustainable urban growth, improving connectivity and quality of life for the community.
