The city of Visakhapatnam is poised to make history as the first urban center in Andhra Pradesh to simultaneously develop three government-run working women's hostels under a structured public-private partnership (PPP) model. The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has successfully secured an impressive ₹172 crore in Union government grants under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme for the fiscal year 2024–25. This substantial funding injection is specifically earmarked for capital assets development, ensuring that resources are directed toward infrastructure rather than operational expenses like salaries.

The project is being meticulously executed by the Greater Visakhapatnam Smart City Corporation Limited, which serves as the special purpose vehicle for the Vizag Smart City initiative. Under the innovative PPP framework, ownership of all three hostel facilities will remain firmly with the state government, while operations and maintenance responsibilities will be managed by private sector partners.

City officials emphasize that these hostels are designed to meet the escalating demand for safe, modern accommodation for working women, driven primarily by Visakhapatnam's rapidly expanding IT, pharmaceutical, and service sectors. GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg has confirmed that construction work has been significantly accelerated, with an ambitious target of achieving 50% physical progress by the end of March. "We are developing these hostels with modern amenities and adequate parking facilities to provide safe and well-equipped accommodation for working women," Garg stated, highlighting the project's commitment to quality infrastructure.

The three hostel projects are progressing at different stages, with foundation stones already laid for facilities at Gajuwaka and Mudasarlova, while construction has recently commenced at Madhurawada. Each facility offers distinct features and capacities:

Madhurawada Hostel: With a budget of ₹26.12 crore, this G+4 structure will feature 96 rooms accommodating 248 women. Amenities include dedicated parking, dining facilities, a library, gymnasium, yoga hall, medical room, and comprehensive safety infrastructure.
Mudasarlova Hostel: As the largest facility with an estimated cost of ₹63.73 crore, this hostel will offer 204 rooms for 616 women. Premium features include landscaped gardens, indoor games facilities, a rooftop café, separate yoga and gym rooms, library, medical room, and enhanced security systems.
Gajuwaka Hostel: While specific details about this facility's capacity and amenities are still emerging, it represents the third component of this comprehensive hostel development initiative.
