The intensive inspection drive commenced at midnight on Tuesday and continued until 2 am. A team of 27 officers fanned out across the division to conduct simultaneous checks at 25 non-interlocked level crossings. The focus of the operation was the Tiruvarur-Thiruthuraipoondi-Pattukottai-Karaikudi railway section.
Officials stated the primary objective was to detect and prevent any unauthorized advance exchange of private contact numbers between gatekeepers and other parties. Such practices can compromise procedural discipline. The checks were meticulously synchronized with actual train movements to assess real-time compliance.

The entire operation was carried out under the direct supervision of Balak Ram Negi, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of the Trichy division. The core aims were clear: to reinforce operational safety, instill procedural discipline, and sensitize ground staff on non-negotiable safe practices.

This was not the first operation of its kind. The division had previously conducted a similar surprise inspection involving 20 officers on December 9 across the Trichy–Thanjavur–Tiruvarur–Nagapattinam section, signaling a sustained campaign for heightened vigilance.
