Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called on citizens to reduce dependence on foreign goods, cut fuel consumption, and avoid unnecessary foreign travel amid the ongoing West Asia crisis and global economic uncertainty. Speaking on the growing trend of destination weddings abroad, Modi urged Indians to choose domestic locations for vacations and weddings to reduce foreign exchange outflow and promote local tourism.
Promoting Domestic Tourism
Modi suggested venues like the Statue of Unity for weddings and stressed the importance of supporting local businesses and products under the 'Vocal for Local' initiative. He emphasized that choosing Indian destinations would not only save foreign exchange but also boost the local economy and create jobs.
Fuel Conservation Measures
The Prime Minister also appealed to people to use public transport, metros, electric buses, and carpooling to conserve fuel. He encouraged virtual meetings and work-from-home practices in both government and private sectors to reduce fuel consumption and traffic congestion.
Gold Purchases and National Resources
Modi advised citizens to postpone gold purchases and contribute collectively towards reducing pressure on national resources during the global crisis. He highlighted that such measures would help the country navigate the challenging economic environment more effectively.
The Prime Minister's remarks come at a time when the world is facing economic headwinds due to geopolitical tensions and supply chain disruptions. By adopting these practices, Indians can play a crucial role in strengthening the nation's economic resilience and self-reliance.
