Panchkula Municipal Corporation to Outsource CCTV Network Maintenance

The Municipal Corporation (MC) of Panchkula is set to hand over the operation and maintenance (O&M) responsibilities of its extensive citywide CCTV surveillance network to an external agency for a duration of one year. This strategic move is primarily aimed at significantly improving public safety standards and enhancing overall monitoring capabilities across the urban landscape.

Project Scope and Financial Details

With an estimated budget of nearly Rs 1 crore, this comprehensive project will encompass round-the-clock operational management, routine upkeep, timely repairs, and efficient fault rectification for all existing CCTV cameras installed within the municipal limits. Officials have emphasized that this initiative is designed to guarantee uninterrupted surveillance coverage, facilitate faster response times to technical breakdowns, and provide superior support for critical functions including traffic regulation, crime prevention, and broader civic management efforts.

Tendering Process and Implementation Timeline

The tendering process for selecting the external agency is anticipated to be finalized by the end of this month. Following the successful completion of this process, the operational work under the new maintenance contract is projected to commence in March, ensuring a swift transition to the enhanced maintenance framework.

Addressing Existing Infrastructure Issues

The MC had previously installed a total of 473 CCTV cameras at major markets, key road intersections, and other strategic locations throughout the city. However, a significant number of these cameras were found to be non-functional, compromising the effectiveness of the surveillance network. Under the new O&M contract, all these defective cameras will be systematically repaired and restored to full operational status.

Furthermore, the civic body has already initiated the installation of additional cameras in prominent markets located in sectors 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 15, as well as across various villages and community centers within its jurisdiction. This expansion is part of a broader effort to strengthen surveillance coverage.

Commitment to Uniform Maintenance Standards

A senior MC official provided assurance regarding the maintenance plan, stating, "Wherever cameras have been installed, all will be brought under uniform maintenance. We will ensure none remain non-functional." This statement underscores the corporation's dedication to achieving consistent and reliable performance across the entire CCTV network, thereby maximizing its utility for public safety and administrative purposes.
