Noida Power Crisis: Morning Rains Trigger 8+ Hour Outages Across Multiple Sectors
Noida Power Cuts: Rains Cause 8-Hour Outages in Multiple Sectors

Noida Faces Major Power Disruption Following Morning Showers

Early morning showers in Noida on Friday led to prolonged power outages across multiple sectors, with some areas experiencing electricity cuts lasting over eight hours. The disruption affected numerous residential zones, including Sectors 22, 33, 44, 55, 81, and 105, leaving residents frustrated and demanding immediate solutions from the electricity department.

Extended Outages in Sector 55 Spark Resident Anger

In Sector 55, residents reported an extensive power cut that began with intermittent disruptions between 6 AM and 8 AM, followed by a continuous outage lasting until 4 PM. This extended period without electricity during winter months has intensified public dissatisfaction, with many questioning the reliability of the power supply system.

Satnarayan Goyal, president of the Resident Welfare Association (RWA) for Sector 55, voiced significant frustration over the recurring nature of these power issues. "This isn't the first time – it's the same situation every time it rains lightly. Isn't a regular electricity supply our right?" Goyal emphasized that residents deserve accountability and improved infrastructure from the electricity department.

Goyal further stated, "Now we don't want to complain. We want a permanent solution," and has escalated the matter to Yogendra Sharma, president of the Federation of Noida Resident Welfare Associations (FONRWA), urging prompt intervention and action.

Official Explanations and Technical Causes

Anurag Saxena, assistant engineer at the 33/11 kV substation in Sector 22 and Noida Stadium Sector 21A, attributed the outages in Sector 55 to fallen tree branches and disruptions caused by strong winds during the morning's heavy rainfall. Similar concerns were raised by residents from other affected sectors, highlighting widespread impact.

Vivek Kumar Patel, superintending engineer of the Noida power department, explained to media sources that the first seasonal shower often leads to local faults due to several factors:

  • Moisture accumulation in electrical components
  • Damage to cable boxes
  • Tree fall incidents caused by weather conditions

Patel noted that these seasonal challenges require systematic addressing to prevent recurring disruptions during rainfall periods.

Broader Implications and Resident Demands

The power outages have sparked broader discussions about infrastructure resilience and maintenance protocols in Noida. Residents across affected sectors are calling for:

  1. Improved tree trimming and maintenance near power lines
  2. Enhanced weather-proofing of electrical infrastructure
  3. Faster response mechanisms during weather-related disruptions
  4. Transparent communication from power authorities during outages

The incident underscores the need for proactive measures by the electricity department to ensure reliable power supply, particularly during seasonal weather changes that frequently affect the region.
