Noida Administration Initiates Recruitment for Inaugural Civil Defence Unit

The Noida administration has officially opened applications for the establishment of its first-ever civil defence unit, calling upon residents to volunteer for unpaid positions within the civil defence corps. This strategic initiative aims to build a dedicated pool of trained volunteers who can provide crucial support to law enforcement and administrative bodies during a variety of scenarios.

Addressing a Critical Gap in Emergency Preparedness

Priyanka, the Additional District Magistrate (Judicial) and Deputy Controller of Civil Defence, emphasized that the primary goal of this recruitment drive is to create a trained volunteer force. This force will be equipped to assist police personnel during large-scale public gatherings such as festivals and fairs, respond effectively to natural disasters including floods and earthquakes, and participate in broader public welfare campaigns.

This move follows nationwide civil defence drills conducted across India in May 2025. Notably, Noida, falling under the Gautam Buddh Nagar (GB Nagar) district, was among the few districts that did not formally participate in these exercises due to the absence of an official civil defence unit. Despite this, the district administration, acting on state government directives, organized mock evacuation drills by mobilizing existing resources. These drills involved personnel from the National Cadet Corps (NCC), National Service Scheme (NSS), and local factory staff, demonstrating an adaptive approach to emergency preparedness.

Eligibility and Application Process for Prospective Volunteers

Officials clarified that the historical lack of a civil defence unit in GB Nagar stemmed from its status as a relatively new district, especially when compared to neighboring regions like Ghaziabad, which already possess established civil defence infrastructures.

Interested residents can obtain and submit application forms offline at Room No. 16 in the Collectorate office located in Surajpur, Greater Noida. The entire recruitment process will be governed by the provisions outlined in the Civil Defence Act of 1968, along with its associated regulations and rules.

The administration has specified clear eligibility criteria for applicants. Candidates must be Indian citizens aged between 18 and 60 years. A minimum educational qualification of having passed high school is required, along with being in good physical and mental health. Importantly, applicants must not have any criminal cases registered against them and should not be active members of any political party. They are also expected to be respected individuals within their local communities.

Priyanka confirmed that all positions within the civil defence unit are strictly voluntary and unpaid. "After receiving the applications, police verification and medical examinations will be conducted. Only those found fit in both processes will be appointed," she stated.

Roles and Appointment Authority for Selected Volunteers

Upon successful selection, volunteers may be assigned to various critical roles within the civil defence organizational structure. These positions include, but are not limited to:

  • Chief Warden
  • Deputy Chief Warden
  • Divisional Warden
  • Post Warden
  • Sector Warden
  • Incident Control Officer
  • Messenger
  • Various reserve and support positions

Final appointments to these roles will be made by the District Magistrate, who serves as the Controller of Civil Defence for the district. This structured approach ensures that the volunteer force is integrated into the official administrative framework, enhancing Noida's overall capacity for crisis management and public safety.
