Mysuru MLA GT Devegowda Orders Permanent Fix for Lingambudhi Lake Sewage Crisis
In a decisive move to tackle a long-standing environmental and public health issue, Chamundeshwari MLA GT Devegowda has directed officials to implement permanent measures to resolve the persistent problem of sewage water flowing around Lingambudhi lake. The MLA also addressed the obstruction to rainwater flow in stormwater drains, which has been causing foul odor and significant inconvenience to residents for many months.
Spot Inspection and Immediate Instructions
GT Devegowda conducted a comprehensive spot inspection on Wednesday in areas where untreated sewage from the underground drainage network in Dattagalli and Kanakadasa Nagar second stage flows through stormwater drains into Lingambudhi lake. Accompanied by residents, he visited several affected localities to review the situation first-hand, gaining insights into the severity of the problem.
During the inspection, Devegowda emphasized that if rainwater was allowed to flow freely through stormwater drains, the lake would not face any issues. He stressed the urgent need to prepare an action plan, listing both temporary and permanent measures along with detailed cost estimates to address the crisis effectively.
Official Meeting and Collaborative Efforts
The MLA instructed officials to convene a meeting soon under the chairmanship of the deputy commissioner to discuss and finalize the proposed works. He highlighted that this meeting would involve officials from key departments, including the city corporation, Mysuru Development Authority, and the forest department, ensuring a coordinated approach under the district commissioner's leadership.
City corporation commissioner Sheikh Tanveer Asif responded promptly, assuring that steps would be taken immediately to prevent contaminated water from entering the lake. He committed to initiating action after identifying specific locations where new pipelines need to be laid and retaining walls constructed to mitigate the sewage flow.
Additional Resident Complaints Addressed
During the inspection, residents also raised concerns about a park adjacent to Lingambudhi lake being misused by a private school as a playground and parking space for school vehicles. In response to this complaint, Commissioner Asif assured that the area would be cleared immediately and restored for public use, addressing community grievances beyond the sewage issue.
This proactive initiative by MLA GT Devegowda aims to bring lasting relief to Mysuru residents, combining immediate actions with long-term solutions to protect Lingambudhi lake and improve local infrastructure.
