Mumbai Water Cut Alert: 3 Suburban Wards Face Low Pressure for 5 Days
Mumbai: 3 Wards Face Water Cuts During Christmas Week

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced a planned disruption in water supply affecting several key suburban areas during the Christmas week. Residents in three major municipal wards are advised to prepare for low water pressure for five consecutive days, starting Monday, December 22, 2025.

Affected Areas and Schedule

The civic body stated that the water supply work is connected to the ongoing Metro Line 7A project. To complete the necessary infrastructure adjustments, the BMC will temporarily reduce water pressure in the following wards:

  • G/North Ward: Covering Dadar, Mahim, Matunga, and Dharavi.
  • H/East Ward: Encompassing Bandra East and Santacruz East.
  • K/East Ward: Including Andheri East and Vile Parle.

The period of low pressure is scheduled from 10 am on Monday, December 22, until 1 pm on Friday, December 26.

Reason Behind the Water Supply Work

The disruption is due to the reconnection of a major water pipeline that was earlier diverted to facilitate the construction of Metro Line 7A. BMC officials explained that a 2,400 mm water supply channel, a crucial part of the city's network, needs to be reintegrated.

"Owing to the construction of the Metro 7A line, we had to divert a 2,400 mm water supply channel, which is a crucial water supply network. Now we will reconnect the two lines for which the water supply will be temporarily stopped to prevent any future loss of water," the BMC said in an official statement.

Phased Execution and Citizen Advisory

Civic officials emphasized that the work will be executed in a phased manner to minimize inconvenience. The process involves excavation and joining of water mains, which is expected to take nearly four days.

"The work will be taken up in a phased manner to ensure that we don’t have to stall the supply of water entirely, and there is no prolonged hindrance to citizens. Instead, we will carry out controlled water supply at low pressure; therefore, citizens are requested to use water carefully during these few days," a senior BMC official said.

This announcement comes shortly after a similar water cut affected 17 out of 25 municipal wards in Mumbai between December 8 and 9, 2025, when the BMC replaced a 2,750-mm pipeline. The authorities are urging residents in the impacted suburbs to store water judiciously and cooperate during this essential civic maintenance period.
