Mohali Power Supply Fully Restored After Storm-Induced Outages
Electricity supply was completely restored in the worst-affected areas of Mohali by Saturday afternoon, following intensive repair efforts by the electricity department. Officials confirmed that full restoration across Mohali city was achieved by approximately 4pm, bringing relief to residents who endured prolonged outages.
Prolonged Outages in Key Localities
Several localities experienced extended power disruptions since Friday's severe storm and heavy rainfall. Affected areas included Phase 10, Phase 7, Sectors 79 and 80, Phase 1, Phase 3B1, and adjoining regions. Residents in these pockets reported significant power cuts and disruptions throughout the night, causing considerable inconvenience.
Intensive Repair Work Overcomes Challenges
Restoration efforts commenced immediately after the damage was reported. Strong winds uprooted and damaged more than 10 electricity poles in Phase 7, which significantly slowed down the final phase of repair operations. The replacement of these poles required several hours, delaying the return of uninterrupted power supply. Despite these challenges, the electricity department's persistent work ensured full restoration by Saturday afternoon.
Resident Experiences and Broader Impact
Residents described the outage as highly disruptive. Manish, a resident of Sector 79, noted that electricity supply remained erratic throughout the night. "We had a tough time. People were frightened to see the rough weather and, to top it all, there was a blackout," he said. The storm had swept across Mohali on Friday, triggering widespread outages across multiple sectors and residential phases, leaving many without electricity for hours.
Restoration in Neighboring Areas
Meanwhile, officials reported that Kharar saw complete power restoration on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. In Zirakpur, power supply resumed by around 10am on Saturday, although intermittent disruptions persisted in some areas later in the day. The coordinated efforts highlight the electricity department's response to storm-related damages across the region.
