Gurgaon: Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) commissioner and chief Census officer Pradeep Dahiya on Thursday issued a directive to all heads of departments, offices, and branches of the civic body, instructing them to relieve officers and employees engaged in Census-2027 duties from their regular responsibilities. The house-listing exercise for Census-2027 is currently underway, following guidelines from the union and state governments, and must be completed within a stipulated timeframe.
Challenges in Census Operations
According to a statement released by MCG, several officials deployed for Census work had been encountering difficulties in completing their assigned tasks due to their routine departmental duties. The exercise involves field visits, verification, data compilation, and timely submission of reports, making uninterrupted availability of the staff essential for success.
Official Order Details
“It has been observed that various officials/employees deployed for Census-2027 duties are facing difficulties in performing and completing their assigned census-related work within the stipulated timeline due to regular departmental engagements. In view of the above, all Heads of Departments/Branches under the jurisdiction of Municipal Corporation Gurugram are hereby directed to suitably relax the officials/employees deputed for Census-2027 work and allow them adequate time and necessary administrative support to perform their census duties effectively and within the prescribed schedule,” read the order issued by Dahiya.
He also instructed deployed staff to prioritize Census-related work and complete it according to the scheduled program. Dahiya emphasized, “Census-2027 will play an important role in the country’s development planning, policy formulation, and decision-making process. Coordination among all departments is necessary for the success of the campaign.”
Importance of Timely Completion
The house-listing phase is critical for gathering baseline data on households, which will form the foundation for the subsequent population enumeration. The MCG’s proactive step aims to streamline the process and ensure that all census personnel can focus solely on their census duties without the distraction of regular departmental work.
This move is expected to accelerate the data collection process and improve accuracy, as staff can dedicate their full attention to field verification and reporting. The MCG has urged all department heads to comply with the directive immediately to avoid any delays in the census schedule.
