MCG Establishes Road Development Cell to Boost Gurgaon's Infrastructure
In a significant move to enhance urban infrastructure, the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) has officially constituted a Road Development Cell (RDC) with immediate effect. This new body is tasked with closely monitoring infrastructure projects and ensuring faster grievance redressal for residents, as per an official order issued on Tuesday.
Strengthening Planning and Execution of Road Works
The creation of the RDC aims to strengthen the planning, execution, and oversight of road works across the city. By improving project quality and timelines, the cell seeks to enhance coordination among the multiple agencies involved in road construction and maintenance. For effective implementation, the RDC will coordinate with key departments and agencies, including the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP), Public Works Department (PWD), Traffic Police, and various utility agencies. This collaboration is expected to resolve issues related to construction, repairs, and traffic management more efficiently.
Leadership and Membership of the New Cell
The Road Development Cell will function under the chairpersonship of MCG Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya, with Additional Commissioner-2 Ankita Choudhary serving as vice-chairperson. All executive and assistant engineers of the civic body will be members, along with consultant Anita Phalswal. Commissioner Dahiya emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, "Formation of RDC will strengthen monitoring of road projects, increase transparency in construction works, and enable faster resolution of citizens' complaints than before. This will significantly help in making Gurugram's road system organised and safe."
Monitoring Major Projects and Grievance Redressal
According to the official order, the RDC will monitor and review major road projects costing Rs 25 lakh or more. It will conduct periodic assessments of timelines, quality standards, and financial progress to ensure accountability. For quicker redressal of complaints, the cell will track grievances received through various platforms, such as the GMDA portal, the MCG mobile app, and the "Mhari Sadak" platform, which will be given priority. The aim is to ensure coordinated resolution so that residents do not have to lodge repeated complaints, thereby improving overall satisfaction and efficiency.
Reporting and Operational Framework
The RDC will prepare periodic status reports on project progress and complaint disposal, submitting them to the competent authority for review. Additionally, it will execute works in accordance with CQM directives, monitor road-related environmental targets, and carry out tasks assigned by the authority. To maintain regular oversight, RDC meetings will be held every fortnight or as directed by the chairperson. Regional officers will be required to furnish relevant data and updates to the cell, ensuring that all stakeholders are aligned and informed about ongoing developments.
This proactive step by MCG is expected to streamline infrastructure development in Gurgaon, addressing long-standing issues and paving the way for a more organized and safe road network in the rapidly growing city.
