Mangaluru Secretary Issues Directives for Hostel Construction and Infrastructure Projects
In a decisive move to accelerate development in Dakshina Kannada district, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department Secretary Sameer Shukla has issued a series of critical instructions to local officials. At a district-level review meeting held on Tuesday, Shukla, who also serves as the district in-charge secretary, emphasized the urgent need to fast-track land approval processes for new hostel buildings under key welfare departments.
Expediting Hostel Construction and Welfare Initiatives
Sameer Shukla directed officials to prioritize land approval for hostel buildings managed by the Social Welfare, Backward Classes Welfare, and Minority Welfare Departments. He made it clear that construction must be expedited without delay, warning that any lapses in progress would not be tolerated. Additionally, Shukla mandated regular health checks for hostel students and strict monitoring of food quality to ensure their well-being.
Reviewing the implementation of the Gruha Lakshmi guarantee scheme, Shukla instructed officials to promptly register all pending applicants and release funds swiftly to eligible beneficiaries. This step aims to enhance the effectiveness of social welfare programs in the region.
Infrastructure Boost with Electric Buses and Water Projects
In a significant infrastructure push, Shukla highlighted the approval of 100 KSRTC electric buses for Mangaluru. He called for immediate action to purchase and operationalize these buses, alongside the establishment of necessary charging stations. This initiative is expected to promote sustainable public transportation and reduce carbon emissions in the city.
Under the Jal Jeevan Mission, substantial progress has been achieved, with 650 projects worth Rs 482 crore completed, marking an 84% advancement rate. Shukla set a firm deadline for officials to finalize the remaining projects by the end of February. He also emphasized the importance of repairing dug-up roads and verifying the completion of Har Ghar Jal connections through gram sabhas to ensure transparency and community involvement.
Addressing Delays and Ensuring Accountability
Expressing dissatisfaction with the Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Limited (KRIDL), Shukla criticized the agency for not commencing approved works. He urged officials to hold KRIDL accountable and ensure that all sanctioned projects are initiated without further delay. This directive underscores the administration's commitment to timely execution and efficient governance in Dakshina Kannada.
