Celebrating a National Icon
Kumara inaugurated the National Youth Day program at Mandya University. He described January 12 as a profoundly significant date in India's history. The deputy commissioner reflected on a difficult period during the 19th century. He noted that Swami Vivekananda emerged as a brilliant guiding light for the nation during that time of hardship.
"Greatness is not measured by how long one lives," Kumara stated. "It is measured by one's contributions to society." He presented Vivekananda's life as the perfect example of this principle.
A Legacy of Global Respect
The deputy commissioner highlighted Swami Vivekananda's historic 1893 speech. His address at the World Parliament of Religions in Chicago earned India immense respect on the global stage. Kumara pointed to Vivekananda's unwavering faith in the power of young people.
He urged the youth to cultivate several key qualities. These include strong self-belief, a clear sense of purpose, unshakable confidence, and solid moral strength. "Believing in yourself is as crucial as believing in God," Kumara emphasized. He reminded everyone that both the journey and the final goal hold great importance in life.
