Madurai: Madurai Corporation Commissioner Gaurav Kumar conducted an inspection of the Mullaperiyar combined drinking water scheme's lower camp head pumping station and the Pannaipatti drinking water treatment plant. The visit aimed to verify the drinking water supply to Madurai city under the AMRUT scheme.

Inspection Details

During the inspection on Thursday, the commissioner examined the head pumping station at Mullaperiyar lower camp. He checked water pressure readings, water levels in check dams, and the flow of water through pipelines to the Pannaipatti treatment plant.

Treatment Plant Review

At the Pannaipatti treatment plant, where water destined for Madurai is processed, Commissioner Kumar reviewed each stage of the treatment process. This included raw water collection, chemical addition to settle fine impurities, filtration, chlorination, and storage of treated water in clear water tanks.

He also assessed how water is supplied through the pipeline network to overhead storage tanks and subsequently delivered to consumers. The commissioner's inspection underscores the importance of maintaining quality and efficiency in the city's water supply system.
