Lucknow Civic Body Launches Aggressive Tax Recovery Drive
The Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) executed a widespread enforcement operation on Wednesday. Municipal commissioner Gaurav Kumar directed this citywide initiative to boost civic revenue. Officials confirmed that actions against tax defaulters will persist without interruption.
Major Seizures in Zone-1
LMC teams focused their efforts on zone-1, sealing several properties for non-payment of dues. A prominent building located on Naval Kishore road faced sealing due to outstanding house tax amounting to Rs 17.94 lakh. Following this enforcement, the property owner promptly deposited Rs 4 lakh with the corporation. Authorities also sealed two properties on BN road. These actions addressed arrears of Rs 1.21 lakh and Rs 1.62 lakh respectively. Another property was sealed for pending dues of Rs 1.6 lakh. Zonal officer Anurag Upadhyay led this drive alongside the tax department team.
Action in Zone-5 and Zone-7
In zone-5, the corporation took attachment and sealing measures against major defaulters in the Chitraguptanagar ward. The government veterinary hospital building at Jafar Kheda was attached and sealed for non-payment of Rs 24.13 lakh. Assistant municipal commissioner and zonal officer Vineet Kumar Singh supervised this operation.
Zone-7 witnessed the sealing of 63 shops during the drive. Among these, 33 shops in Sai market opposite BBD college were sealed for nearly Rs 14 lakh in pending property tax. Another 30 shops in areas including Kailash Kunj (Block-A), Indiranagar, Kanchana Bihari marg, and Kalyanpur were sealed for dues exceeding Rs 10 lakh. This effort in zone-7 successfully resulted in a collection of Rs 15.12 lakh.
Commissioner's Statement
Municipal commissioner Gaurav Kumar emphasized the importance of property tax. He stated, "Property tax is a major source of revenue for the civic body." Kumar urged all defaulters to clear their outstanding dues promptly to avoid further enforcement actions.
