Kolar Deputy Commissioner Cracks Down on Census Delays

In a decisive move to address the sluggish progress of census operations, Kolar Deputy Commissioner M R Ravi has issued show-cause notices to eight government officials. The action targets six tahsildars and two other officers for their alleged failure in overseeing house-listing activities and monitoring enumerators effectively.

Review Reveals Alarming Shortfalls

Deputy Commissioner Ravi conducted a comprehensive review of the census work on Tuesday, where he expressed serious concerns over the slow pace of data collection. The review highlighted that a substantial number of enumerators assigned to the task failed to log into the system and perform their duties, causing significant delays across multiple taluks in the district.

The officials served with notices include tahsildars Geetha (Mulbagal), Roopa (Malur), Bharath (KGF), Sujatha K S (Bangarpet), Sudheendra (Srinivasapura), and Nayana (Kolar). Additionally, zilla panchayat chief planning officer Ravichandra N and Kolar DDPI Almas Parveen Taz have been issued notices for supervisory lapses in their respective roles.

Widespread Non-Participation of Enumerators

According to the official notices, the census exercise has been severely impacted by the non-participation of enumerators. The documents reveal startling statistics: Mulbagal taluk reported 121 enumerators who did not log in, Malur had 256 such cases, Kolar taluk witnessed 217 failures, KGF recorded 126, and Bangarpet saw 86 enumerators failing to access the system.

Officials from the deputy commissioner's office emphasized that these numbers indicate inadequate oversight and monitoring at the taluk level, which has directly contributed to the delays in completing the crucial national census work.

Strict Deadline and Consequences

The eight officials have been directed to submit written explanations within 24 hours of receiving the show-cause notices. Deputy Commissioner Ravi has made it clear that disciplinary proceedings will be initiated if satisfactory explanations are not provided promptly.

This crackdown underscores the administration's commitment to ensuring timely completion of the census, which is vital for accurate demographic data and effective governance planning in the region.
