IMC Demolishes 40-Year-Old Dilapidated Water Tank in Indore's Scheme 51
IMC Demolishes Old Water Tank in Indore, Plans New Zonal Office

The Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) executed a significant demolition operation on Thursday, bringing down a decades-old, dilapidated overhead water tank located in Scheme 51, under zone 4. This structure, which had stood for approximately 40 years, was demolished using earth movers under the close supervision of senior civic officials, marking a pivotal step in urban safety and infrastructure management.

Background and Safety Concerns

Originally constructed by the Indore Development Authority (IDA), the water tank had been empty for over a decade, according to IMC officials. Over time, it deteriorated into a dilapidated state, posing a significant risk to residents in this densely populated area. The water supply from this tank had already been redirected to other functional networks long ago, rendering it obsolete.

Future Plans for the Site

The corporation clarified that while the structure is being cleared, reconstruction will only occur if future water demand necessitates a new overhead tank. As per the current plan, IMC intends to construct a new zonal office on this site, repurposing the land for administrative use to better serve the community.

City-Wide Tank Cleaning Initiative

Parallel to the demolition drive, IMC has prepared a comprehensive calendar for the regular cleaning of all 105 overhead water tanks in Indore. Ashish Pathak, IMC additional commissioner, stated that "so far, 40 to 45 tanks have already been sanitised", with the target to complete cleaning all remaining tanks by the end of next month.

Enhanced Maintenance Measures

Moving forward, every tank in the city will undergo professional cleaning every six months. In addition to regular manual chlorination, the corporation plans to install chlorine monitoring devices at every tank. These devices will be connected to the supervisory control and data acquisition system, ensuring consistent water quality and safety standards across Indore.
