Gurgaon Minister Issues Strict Directives on Urban Infrastructure and Environmental Protection

In a significant review meeting held on Saturday, Union Minister and Member of Parliament Rao Inderjit Singh issued a series of directives to Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) officials aimed at addressing critical urban and environmental challenges. The meeting focused on infrastructure development, waste management, and environmental projects, with Mayor Raj Rani Malhotra, MCG Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya, and other senior officials in attendance.

Encroachment Removal and Drainage Survey Ordered

Minister Singh specifically directed MCG officials to immediately remove all encroachments that are obstructing the city's natural drainage channels. He emphasized the urgency of this action to prevent waterlogging and ensure proper water flow during the monsoon season.

The minister ordered a comprehensive survey to identify all such encroachments, with officials required to submit a detailed report within one month. Singh warned that strict action would be taken against violators, including builders and industrial units found responsible for blocking natural water pathways.

Crackdown on Wastewater Pollution and Rainwater Harvesting

During the review of drainage-related work, Singh instructed officials to take decisive action against builders and industrial units discharging untreated wastewater into drains without proper sewage treatment plants (STPs). He made it clear that such pollution would not be tolerated under any circumstances.

The minister also reviewed rainwater harvesting initiatives across the city. He directed MCG to revoke occupancy certificates of large plot owners and housing societies found negligent in implementing mandatory rainwater harvesting systems. Officials informed the minister that repairs of non-functional systems and construction of 175 new rainwater harvesting structures are currently underway, with completion targeted before the monsoon season.

Bandhwari Landfill and Legacy Waste Processing

Singh reviewed the status of the Bandhwari landfill and legacy waste disposal, a long-standing environmental concern for Gurgaon residents. MCG Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya informed the minister that under a new tender, scientific processing of approximately 16.8 lakh metric tonnes of legacy waste is planned to begin this month, with completion targeted by February 2027.

"The concerns of residents of Bandhwari and surrounding villages must be addressed, and waste from Faridabad should no longer be dumped at the site," Singh stated during the meeting. He emphasized the importance of proper waste management practices to protect local communities and the environment.

Legal Disputes and Infrastructure Projects

The ongoing legal dispute with Ecogreen Energy Pvt Ltd was discussed during the meeting. Officials informed the minister that the matter is currently under arbitration, with the next hearing scheduled for February 16.

Singh also reviewed progress on the Rao Birender Singh Sports Stadium being constructed at Wazirabad. He instructed officials to complete the remaining work within the extended deadline of January 2027, ensuring timely delivery of this important sports facility.

Water Supply Enhancement and Departmental Coordination

Regarding the city's water supply, the minister announced that work on laying an underground NCR channel pipeline from Kakroi village in Sonipat district to Gurgaon will begin soon. This project is expected to significantly enhance water supply capacity for the growing city.

In his concluding remarks, Singh directed all departments to adhere strictly to project timelines and prioritize key areas including waste management, drainage improvement, environmental protection, and urban infrastructure development. He emphasized the need for coordinated efforts among various government agencies to address Gurgaon's urban challenges effectively.
