The Gujarat government has unveiled a set of austerity measures aimed at reducing expenses and promoting sustainable practices. In a recent directive, the state administration has strongly recommended the use of virtual meetings instead of in-person gatherings, even in cases of absolute necessity. Officials have been advised to conduct meetings through digital platforms rather than summoning regional representatives to a central location, thereby saving travel and logistical costs.
Promotion of Electric Vehicles
As part of the austerity drive, the government is also encouraging the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) among its departments and employees. The move is intended to reduce fuel expenses and minimize the carbon footprint of official transportation. The directive emphasizes that EVs should be preferred for official travel wherever feasible.
Additional Measures
Other cost-saving initiatives include restrictions on unnecessary expenditures, such as lavish decorations and refreshments during official events. The government has also called for prudent use of electricity and water in government buildings. These steps are part of a broader effort to streamline state finances and set an example of fiscal discipline.
The announcement comes amid ongoing efforts by the state to balance its budget while maintaining essential services. Officials have been asked to submit compliance reports on the implementation of these measures.
