India's aviation regulator has issued a strong statement defending its internal administrative decisions, days after reassigning an official in the wake of a major schedule collapse at IndiGo. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) took to social media to clarify its position, aiming to quell what it termed as unfounded speculation.
DGCA's Firm Stance on Administrative Decisions
On Wednesday, the DGCA stated unequivocally that the transfer and posting of its officers and staff are routine internal matters. The regulator emphasized that these actions are undertaken strictly in accordance with established government rules, prevailing service requirements, and the broader organisational needs.
The DGCA's post asserted that such routine measures are vital for ensuring regulatory effectiveness, operational efficiency, and the uninterrupted continuity of aviation safety functions across the nation. It further added that any speculation regarding the motives behind such transfers or appointments is both misleading and without foundation.
Context: The IndiGo Schedule Collapse
This public clarification comes directly after administrative actions were taken against a DGCA official linked to the recent operational meltdown at IndiGo. Last month, the airline experienced a significant schedule collapse, disrupting the travel plans of thousands of passengers nationwide.
In response, the official in charge of the Flight Standards Directorate (FSD) was removed from that position. The FSD plays a critical role in overseeing key areas, including the Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) for pilots and monitoring the flight operations of airlines.
Additionally, an additional director who was holding the extra charge as the director of FSD was relieved of that responsibility. This official will now focus solely on the Airspace & Air Navigation Service Standards (ANSS) wing.
