The directive was issued one day after a tragic incident in Nangloi, where a cluster bus accident resulted in two fatalities and four injuries on Sunday morning. Authorities have taken swift action, with an official stating that a notice was served to the private concessionaire involved. This notice directs the immediate termination of the driver's services and the initiation of necessary legal proceedings for criminal and civil liabilities.
Additionally, the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has constituted a committee to conduct a detailed inquiry into the Nangloi accident. This move underscores the government's commitment to addressing safety concerns and holding accountable those responsible for negligence.
Alarming Accident Statistics for 2024–25
Official figures reveal a concerning trend in bus-related accidents during the 2024–25 period. A total of 50 accidents involving cluster buses were reported, highlighting a significant safety issue. Among these, 20 were fatal accidents, with 14 involving non-AC buses and six involving AC buses. The data further shows 12 major accidents, including five linked to non-AC buses and seven to AC buses, as well as 18 minor accidents, with 10 involving non-AC buses and eight involving AC buses.
