Delhi Metro Enhances Safety with Extensive Barricading and Lighting Measures
In a significant move to bolster safety at its construction sites across the city, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced on Sunday that it has installed nearly 20 kilometers of barricading. This extensive setup is complemented by 17 kilometers of blinkers and LED lights, aimed at improving visibility and security for both pedestrians and vehicles.
Comprehensive Safety Deployments at Construction Sites
To ensure the well-being of commuters and workers, DMRC has deployed over 270 traffic marshals at various locations. These marshals play a crucial role in managing traffic flow and preventing accidents near metro construction zones. Additionally, road studs have been strategically placed on the roads to slow down vehicles as they approach vulnerable points, further reducing the risk of mishaps.
Warning signage has also been installed to alert motorists about ongoing work or upcoming diversions. This proactive approach helps in minimizing disruptions and enhancing overall road safety during the construction phase.
Special Measures for Winter Fog Conditions
With winter bringing heavy fog that can severely reduce visibility during both day and night, DMRC has implemented several additional safety measures. Anuj Dayal, Principal Executive Director of Corporate Communications at DMRC, highlighted the corporation's efforts.
"During the winter, visibility goes down due to heavy fog. To counter this, our safety teams install LED light ropes and blinkers on the barricades. Fog lights are also mounted atop these structures," Dayal explained. "Reflective tape is added to the helmets of workers, along with their high-visibility jackets, to ensure they are easily seen in low-light conditions."
Robust Barricade Design for Adverse Weather
The barricades have been engineered to withstand challenging weather conditions, such as the monsoon season and periods of high winds. Dayal elaborated on their design features, stating, "The barricades are designed as bottom-heavy, with provisions for nailing to the ground. Each barricade is securely tied to the next using nuts and bolts, ensuring stability."
This meticulous construction means that Delhi Metro's barricades generally remain intact and do not topple even during adverse weather, providing reliable protection for all stakeholders involved.
These initiatives underscore DMRC's commitment to maintaining high safety standards while progressing with its infrastructure projects in the national capital. By integrating advanced lighting, sturdy barricading, and vigilant personnel, the corporation aims to create a safer environment for everyone navigating the city's roads.
