Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta Launches Major Infrastructure Projects in East Delhi
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday inaugurated a series of significant infrastructure projects with a total investment of Rs 1,075 crore in the Vivek Vihar area of east Delhi. The initiatives are designed to enhance traffic management and address long-standing urban challenges in the national capital.
Focus on Traffic Management and Urban Development
During the foundation-laying ceremony, CM Gupta emphasized that these projects will substantially improve traffic flow and provide durable solutions to persistent issues like waterlogging. "Strong infrastructure is absolutely essential for achieving balanced and sustainable development across Delhi," she stated. "Our government is firmly committed to delivering tangible results rather than engaging in mere political rhetoric. We ensure that no part of Delhi will be left behind in the development process."
Gupta highlighted the administration's dedication to a new work culture focused on accelerating progress. "Regular monitoring, strict adherence to timelines, and complete transparency have been given the highest priority in all our projects," she explained. "This event is not just a ceremonial foundation-laying; it represents our unwavering commitment to building a fully developed and modern Delhi."
Comprehensive Road Improvement and Pedestrian Safety Initiatives
According to an official statement, the Public Works Department (PWD) will undertake the strengthening and enhancement of 236 roads at an estimated cost of approximately Rs 782 crore. Upon completion, these improvements are expected to ensure smoother traffic movement and create safer, more convenient travel conditions for residents.
Additionally, the Delhi government is constructing five foot overbridges with an investment of around Rs 21 crore. These structures aim to provide significant relief and enhanced safety for pedestrians, addressing critical urban mobility needs.
Flood Control and Drainage Infrastructure Upgrades
The projects also involve substantial works under the Irrigation and Flood Control Department. These include:
- Reconstruction of 10 major drains
- Improvement of three existing drains
- Construction of 24 boundary walls
- Development of 18 roads and bridges
The approximate total cost for these flood control initiatives is Rs 272 crore, forming a crucial component of the overall infrastructure push.
Government Commitment and Oversight
Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, Harsh Malhotra, was also present at the event, underscoring the collaborative approach to urban development. Officials have received clear directives to ensure all projects are completed within stipulated timelines while maintaining the highest quality standards.
CM Gupta reiterated the government's focus on eliminating developmental disparities, particularly mentioning the priority to bridge the divide between the two banks of the Yamuna River. "Our vision encompasses holistic growth that leaves no area underserved," she affirmed.
The comprehensive infrastructure package represents a strategic investment in Delhi's future, aiming to transform urban living through improved connectivity, enhanced safety, and resilient flood management systems.
