Cloud Seeding to Begin in Haveri District on July 7
Karnataka Minister Koliwad announced on Friday, July 3, 2026, that cloud seeding operations will commence in Haveri district from July 7. The initiative is part of efforts to address rainfall deficits in the region. Speaking at a disaster management review meeting in Bengaluru, Koliwad confirmed that while the application for state-wide cloud seeding is still under verification, the project will initially be implemented in Haveri.
Meeting Highlights and Rationale
The decision follows a review of the drought-like conditions affecting parts of Karnataka. Koliwad emphasized that Haveri has been prioritized due to its acute water scarcity and low rainfall levels. The cloud seeding process involves dispersing substances into the air to encourage precipitation, a technique used in several states to mitigate drought impacts.
State-Wide Plans Pending Verification
The minister noted that a comprehensive proposal for cloud seeding across Karnataka is currently being examined by relevant authorities. Once approved, the program could be expanded to other districts. However, no timeline was provided for the state-wide rollout. The Haveri operation will serve as a pilot to assess effectiveness and logistical feasibility.
