Chandigarh Administration Launches Monthly Grievance Camps and Digital Portal to Enhance Citizen Services
In a significant move towards more responsive and accountable governance, the Chandigarh administration held its inaugural Samaadhaan Shivir at the Guru Dronacharya Stadium in Dadumajra on Saturday. The event was presided over by Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria, who personally heard grievances from residents of Dhanas and Dadumajra, marking a proactive step in addressing public concerns directly.
First-of-its-Kind Initiative Draws Strong Participation
This was the first such shivir organized by the Chandigarh administration, with Chief Secretary H Rajesh Prasad and senior officers from all departments in attendance. Residents raised a wide array of issues, including:
- Civic amenities and sanitation
- Water and electricity supply
- Road conditions and street lighting
- Housing and health services
- Education and social welfare schemes
- Solid waste management
Department officials provided on-the-spot updates, clarified queries, and outlined steps already taken or proposed to resolve these service-delivery concerns. Out of the 76 grievances received, 40 were heard personally by Administrator Kataria, who issued directions for time-bound redressal to ensure swift action.
Monthly Shivirs Planned Across City Locations
Emphasizing the administration's commitment to citizen-centric governance, Kataria announced that similar shivirs will be held every month across different locations in Chandigarh, particularly in colonies. This initiative aims to foster direct interaction between residents and officials, making governance more accessible and transparent.
Launch of Lok Samadhan: A Unified Online Grievance System
During the event, the administrator also launched Lok Samadhan, the UT's unified online grievance monitoring system. Accessible via the portal loksamadhan.chd.gov.in, this platform allows citizens to file and track complaints digitally, eliminating the need to visit government offices physically.
The system operates through a streamlined process:
- OTP-based mobile registration for security
- Submission of grievances with an immediate acknowledgement
- Receipt of a unique grievance number via SMS for real-time tracking
Lok Samadhan provides a centralized mechanism for receiving, processing, and monitoring complaints across various departments. It features defined timelines and enhanced inter-departmental coordination, which officials believe will significantly improve transparency, accountability, and the efficiency of service delivery.
This dual approach—combining in-person grievance camps with a robust digital portal—underscores the Chandigarh administration's push to create a more engaged and responsive governance model, setting a precedent for other regions to follow.
