Chandigarh Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla officially opened a newly reconstructed public toilet near Sector 26 on Friday. The facility, which was previously in a dilapidated state, has undergone a complete rebuild. It now offers safe, hygienic, and modern sanitation amenities to the public.
Modern Features for Inclusivity and Sustainability
The upgraded toilet unit has been designed with a strong focus on inclusivity and sustainability. It includes separate entrances for men and women, ensuring privacy and convenience. A dedicated toilet for persons with disabilities has also been incorporated, making the facility accessible to all.
Eco-Friendly Operations
To promote eco-friendly operations and ensure uninterrupted services, the toilet is equipped with solar power. An inverter backup has been installed as well. This setup helps reduce reliance on conventional electricity and maintains functionality during power outages.
Improving Convenience in a Busy Area
Officials stated that these enhancements will significantly improve convenience for visitors, shopkeepers, and commuters in the busy Sector 26 area. The reconstruction aims to address the needs of the local community by providing a reliable and clean sanitation option.

Speaking at the inauguration event, Mayor Harpreet Kaur Babla reiterated the municipal corporation's commitment to strengthening public infrastructure. She emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness across Chandigarh. According to the mayor, well-maintained sanitation facilities are essential for public health, dignity, and the city's overall image.
Foundation Laid for Storm Water Drainage System
In addition to the toilet inauguration, the mayor laid the foundation for a new storm water drainage system in Sector 28D. The estimated cost for this project is ₹112 lakh. Work on the drainage system is scheduled to be completed within six months, aiming to enhance water management in the area.
