Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Unveils AP FIRST Initiative in Tirupati
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu made a significant announcement on Friday. He revealed plans to establish the Andhra Pradesh Futuristic Innovation and Research in Science and Technology, known as AP FIRST. This new initiative will be located in Tirupati.
Collaboration with Premier Institutions
The state government will develop AP FIRST in partnership with two leading academic bodies. These are the Indian Institute of Technology Tirupati and the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research. This collaboration aims to create a powerful center for advanced research and technological development.
Focus on Future Industries
During a review meeting with his advisors, Naidu outlined the vision for AP FIRST. He emphasized that several key industries will dominate the global economy in the coming decades. The chief minister specifically mentioned aerospace and defence, space technology, and artificial intelligence.
Other critical areas include cyber security, semiconductor manufacturing, and quantum technology. Healthcare, biotechnology, green energy solutions, and rural technologies also featured prominently in his discussion.
Building a Platform for Growth
Naidu stated that AP FIRST should serve multiple important functions. It must act as a platform for cutting-edge research and innovation. The hub will also provide crucial support for startup companies. Furthermore, it will supply skilled professionals to emerging industries across the state.
The chief minister directed officials to immediately begin identifying talented youth. He wants them to find individuals with the necessary skill sets for these future technologies.
Linking Education with Industry
Naidu stressed the importance of strong connections between AP FIRST and various institutions. He called for linking the hub with universities, leading corporations, and innovation centers. This includes the Ratan Tata Innovation Hub.
Officials received instructions to maintain continuous interaction with industries. This ongoing dialogue will help assess evolving skill requirements. The goal is to ensure that academic curricula incorporate new technologies promptly. AP FIRST should help educational institutions align their programs with actual industry demand.
Learning from Past Success
The chief minister reflected on previous policy successes in Andhra Pradesh. He noted that timely focus on the IT sector enabled Telugu professionals to excel globally. Similarly, strategic attention placed the Telugu states at the forefront of the pharmaceutical industry.
Naidu argued that a similar proactive approach is now essential for future technologies. He believes AP FIRST can replicate these successes in new fields.
Ambitious Three-Year Timeline
Naidu set a clear deadline for demonstrating results. He directed that AP FIRST should show tangible progress within the next three years. Particular emphasis should be placed on nurturing startups and strengthening the overall innovation ecosystem.
Expanding Drone Corporation's Role
The review meeting also covered the work of the state's Drone Corporation. Naidu said its role should expand beyond disaster response operations. He proposed including agriculture, medical emergencies, and public service delivery in its mandate.
Officials received instructions to study global best practices in drone usage. They must remain technologically updated to implement the most effective solutions.
Innovative Drone Applications
Naidu suggested exploring a drone traffic control system. This would function similarly to traditional air traffic control. He called for consultation with the central government on this feasibility study.
The chief minister also requested detailed studies on drone taxis and drone ambulances. He wants the government's initiatives in drone-based services showcased to the public by the next International Drone Day.
High-Level Meeting Participants
The important review meeting included several key figures. Aerospace and defence advisor Satheesh Reddy attended, along with IT and digital transformation advisor Amit Duggar. IIT Tirupati director K N Satyanarayana was present, as was Professor Senthil Kumar.
DMTI director Colonel PS Reddy also participated, alongside other senior officials from various departments.
