The draft electoral roll for Uttar Pradesh has been officially released, revealing a significant revision of the state's voter database. Following a comprehensive Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, the list now retains 12.55 crore voters while a staggering 2.89 crore names have been deleted. This massive cleanup aims to create a more accurate and updated voter registry for the world's most populous state.
Why Were So Many Voters Removed?
Navdeep Rinwa, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Uttar Pradesh, clarified the reasons behind the large-scale deletion. The 2.89 crore individuals were removed because Booth Level Officers (BLOs) could not locate them or did not receive their required enumeration forms. According to the CEO, these electors had either permanently shifted from their registered address, were found to be missing or absent from the concerned polling area, or failed to submit their forms by the crucial deadline of December 26, 2025.
The SIR exercise is a critical process designed to include eligible voters who were previously missing, eliminate duplicate or ineligible entries, and correct errors in existing voter details. Names registered at more than one location will now be retained at only one location to prevent duplication.
How to Check Your Voter Status and Take Action
For citizens concerned about their enrollment, the Election Commission has provided multiple channels to verify details and take corrective action.
To check if your name is on the draft roll: You can directly contact your local Booth Level Officer (BLO), use the official ECINET mobile app, or visit the websites ceouttarpradesh.nic.in or voters.eci.gov.in.
To find if your name is in the 'uncollectable' or deleted list: The categorized deletion lists are available online on the same official websites under the ASDDR list. This list classifies deletions as A-'Absent', S-'Shifted', D-'Dead', D-'Duplicate', and R-'Enumeration Form Refused'.
What to Do If Your Name is Missing
If your name does not appear on the draft list, you must apply for inclusion. The primary form for new voters is Form-6. Other essential forms include Form-6A for overseas voters, Form-7 for objecting to or removing a name, and Form-8 for making corrections or replacements to existing entries.
These application forms can be obtained from and submitted to your BLO, the Voter Registration Centre (VRC) at the Tehsil office, or downloaded from ceouttarpradesh.nic.in. Online submission is also facilitated through the ECINET app and the voters.eci.gov.in portal.
Critical Deadlines You Must Remember
The window for raising claims and objections is strictly defined. The period for filing applications starts on January 6, 2026, and concludes on February 6, 2026. The subsequent notice phase and the disposal of these claims and objections will run from January 6, 2026, to February 27, 2026. The final, conclusive electoral roll for Uttar Pradesh will be published on March 6, 2026.
This revision underscores the importance of proactive voter verification. With nearly three crore names removed, eligible citizens are urged to check their status promptly and utilize the provided channels before the deadline to ensure their fundamental right to vote is secured for future elections.
