In a move to ensure a smooth electoral roll revision process, Kanpur's District Magistrate and District Election Officer, Jitendra Pratap Singh, conducted surprise inspections at several polling stations on Sunday. The focus of his visit was the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in the Sisamau and Arya Nagar Assembly constituencies.
On-Ground Inspection and Citizen Interaction
The DM personally visited booths located at GIC Chunniganj, Kailash Nath Inter College, and DAV Inter College. During his tour, he interacted with citizens present at these locations to gather feedback and inform them about the revision process. He also held discussions with the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) stationed there, seeking detailed information about the proceedings.
Key Dates and Procedures for Voters
Jitendra Pratap Singh clarified that the draft publication of the electoral roll for Uttar Pradesh was completed on January 6. Starting from January 11, BLOs will be present at all designated booths with a copy of the draft voters list. Citizens are encouraged to visit these booths to check if their names are correctly listed.
If a name is missing, individuals must apply for inclusion by filling out Form 6. This can be done either online through the official Election Commission portal, voter.eci.gov.in, or the Voter Helpline mobile application, or via offline submission. The DM emphasized that providing accurate details is mandatory for the application.
Simplified Verification and Document Requirements
The District Magistrate outlined specific guidelines to expedite the verification process. He stated that if a person's name, or the name of any parent or grandparent, was registered in the 2003 voters list, providing those details would simplify verification.
He further detailed the document requirements based on the applicant's date of birth:
- Citizens born before July 1, 1987: Must submit any one of the 13 valid identity cards prescribed by the Election Commission of India.
- Those born after July 1, 1987, and before December 2004: Need to submit their own documents along with the documents of one of their parents.
- Individuals born after 2004: Are required to submit their own documents along with the documents of both parents.
This structured approach aims to ensure accuracy and prevent errors in the final electoral roll, a cornerstone of the democratic process. The administration's proactive inspection and clear communication seek to maximize voter participation and list accuracy ahead of future elections.
