IUML's Fathima Thahiliya Wins Perambra Seat in Kerala

Fathima Thahiliya of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has secured a decisive victory in the Perambra constituency of Kerala, defeating her nearest rival, T P Ramakrishnan of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)]. Thahiliya polled 81,429 votes, while Ramakrishnan trailed behind in the closely watched contest.

Constituency Profile

Perambra, located in the Kozhikode district, is largely a rural constituency with approximately 2 lakh registered voters. The seat has traditionally been a stronghold of the Left Democratic Front (LDF), but the United Democratic Front (UDF) managed to wrest it this time. In the 2021 assembly elections, the LDF candidate, T. I. Rajesh, had won against the UDF candidate by a margin of 2,400 votes. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) remains a minor player in this constituency, with its vote share yet to make a significant impact.

Election Trends

The 2026 Kerala election results have seen several upsets and tight contests across the state. The Perambra result is being seen as a significant gain for the UDF, as it reversed the LDF's previous hold. The victory margin of over 81,000 votes indicates a strong swing in favor of the IUML candidate. Voter turnout in the constituency was high, reflecting the intense campaigning by all major parties.
