Mohali: District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal on Sunday expressed strong displeasure with 10 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) for their inadequate progress in voter mapping during a review meeting for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) 2026. The meeting was convened to assess the preparedness of electoral rolls and ensure that no eligible voter is omitted from the list.
Review of Voter Mapping Progress
During the session, Mittal personally interacted with the BLOs, scrutinized their work, and instructed them to expedite voter mapping activities. She emphasized the need for broader coverage and meticulous data management. The Deputy Commissioner stressed that voter registration, data updates, and identification of duplicate entries must be carried out with utmost seriousness to guarantee that every eligible citizen is included in the electoral roll.
Strengthening Voter Awareness
Mittal also called for intensified voter awareness campaigns to educate the public about the revision process. She directed the formation of a core committee under the leadership of District Nodal Officer (SVEEP) Professor Gurbakshish Singh Antal to boost outreach efforts. The committee will coordinate with local communities and leverage various media platforms to maximize awareness.
War Footing for Preparations
The Deputy Commissioner issued a clear directive to all officials to complete the revision-related preparations on a “war footing.” She underscored the urgency of the task, given the upcoming electoral deadlines. District Election Tehsildar Sanje Kumar was also present during the review, ensuring that administrative support is in place for the accelerated timeline.
The SIR 2026 aims to update the electoral rolls comprehensively, and the district administration is leaving no stone unturned to achieve full accuracy and inclusiveness. The DC’s firm stance serves as a reminder of the importance of diligent work by BLOs in the democratic process.
