BMC Polls: 357 Nomination Papers Filed on Monday, Total Reaches 401
BMC Polls: Nomination Count Hits 401, Final Day Today

The nomination process for the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections is gaining momentum as the deadline approaches. On Monday, the fifth day of the process, a significant number of aspirants threw their hats into the ring, setting the stage for a competitive poll.

A Surge in Filings as Deadline Nears

Election officials confirmed that 357 nomination papers were submitted on Monday alone. This single-day influx has pushed the total number of nominations received so far to 401. The distribution of nomination forms also remained brisk, with 1,294 forms handed out to potential candidates from the offices of the city's 23 returning officers.

The process, which began on December 23 as per the schedule set by the State Election Commission, has seen a steady flow of interest. The distribution figures from the preceding days were 4,165 forms on the first day, followed by 2,844 on December 24, 2,040 on December 26, and Monday's 1,294. Cumulatively, 11,568 nomination forms have been distributed to date.

Uneven Interest Across Mumbai's Wards

A closer look at the ward-wise data reveals a varied pattern of participation across Mumbai. The K-West ward, covering Andheri, has recorded the highest number of nominations at 29. It is closely followed by the P-North (Malad) ward with 29 nominations and the N ward (Ghatkopar) with 23 nominations.

However, this enthusiasm is not uniform. Several wards, including C, D, and G-South, have witnessed a relatively lower number of nomination filings despite a consistent distribution of forms. This disparity highlights the localized nature of civic election dynamics.

Final Day Rush and Upcoming Steps

Tuesday marks the final day for both the distribution and submission of nomination papers. Election officials anticipate a last-minute rush of candidates, a trend commonly observed in municipal polls. Following the closure of nominations, the next critical steps in the electoral process are:

  • Scrutiny of nomination papers: This will be conducted on December 31 to validate the submissions.
  • Withdrawal of nominations: Candidates can withdraw their papers until January 2, 2026, after which the final list of contestants will be confirmed.

The rising nomination numbers indicate keen interest in the crucial civic polls, which will determine the administration of India's financial capital for the next term. All eyes are now on the final day's tally.
