Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a powerful address to the Indian community in Oman, weaving together themes of development ('vikas') and heritage ('virasat'). He asserted that India is achieving unprecedented heights under his government's leadership.
Diaspora as Global Ambassadors
Modi praised the Indian diaspora in Oman, calling them a "mini India" and a living testament to coexistence. He highlighted their role as custodians of the centuries-old relationship between India and Oman. The Prime Minister emphasized that the UNESCO recognition of Diwali as an "intangible cultural heritage of humanity" is a proud moment for all Indians worldwide. "Our diya of Diwali will not only illuminate our home but the whole world," he said to cheers from the audience.
Economic Might and Future Frontiers
On the economic front, PM Modi presented a robust picture. He stated that India remains the world's fastest-growing major economy with a growth rate of 8.2%, despite global challenges. He outlined the government's strategy to build on India's IT strengths by adding manufacturing muscle, driven by the "Make in India, Make for the world" motto.
The Prime Minister detailed India's focused, mission-mode work in critical future sectors:
- Semiconductor chip manufacturing
- Quantum computing
- Green hydrogen production
He asserted that India in the 21st century is characterized by swift, bold decision-making and a commitment to delivering results on time.
Deepening India-Oman 'Maitri'
Modi underscored the special and historic ties between India and Oman, which are linked not just by geography but by generations. He elaborated on the concept of 'maitri parv' (friendship festival), defining it through key pillars:
- Maritime heritage
- Aspirations
- Innovation
- Trust and technology
- Respect and inclusive growth
He noted that the relationship, which began with trade, is now being strengthened through education, with over 46,000 students enrolled in Indian schools in Oman. Modi also lauded the Omani monarchy for its support to the Indian community.
In a forward-looking statement, the Prime Minister invited students to visit the ISRO campus in Bengaluru and predicted that the time is not far when India will have its own space station.
