Meghalaya Minister Launches School Transport Vehicle to Enhance Student Access
In a significant move to bolster educational accessibility, Meghalaya Education Minister and Amlarem MLA Lahkmen Rymbui flagged off a dedicated transport vehicle for students from Kyrweng village. This initiative aims to provide safer and more reliable travel to Muktapur near the India-Bangladesh border, particularly during the challenging monsoon season.
Addressing Travel Challenges for Regular School Attendance
The new vehicle is expected to mitigate travel difficulties that have long hindered students, ensuring they can attend school regularly without disruptions. According to the education department, the project focuses on guaranteeing safe, secure, and consistent access to education, with a special emphasis on monsoon periods when roads become treacherous.
During a gathering on Saturday, Minister Rymbui urged villagers to use the vehicle responsibly, stressing that it must serve its intended educational purpose. He appealed to the village durbar, the traditional administrative body, to take full responsibility for the vehicle's care and maintenance, ensuring long-term benefits for the student community.
Infrastructure Boost with Sanctioned Funds for Development
In addition to the transport initiative, Rymbui distributed work orders worth Rs 5 lakh for constructing additional classrooms at Kyrweng LP School. He also sanctioned Rs 1 lakh for building a school toilet, highlighting the importance of sanitation and public health in educational settings.
Extending developmental support beyond Kyrweng, the minister handed over work orders worth Rs 5 lakh for internal road construction in Sankhat village and sanctioned Rs 2 lakh for a boundary wall at RC Sankhat. Emphasizing that cleanliness is vital for development, Rymbui expressed hope that these efforts would raise awareness and foster community progress.
This comprehensive approach underscores the government's commitment to improving educational infrastructure and connectivity in remote areas, paving the way for enhanced learning opportunities and overall community welfare in Meghalaya.
