An Indian Army contingent from the Assam Regiment, the Indian Navy's stealth frigate INS Tarkash, and the indigenously built survey vessel INS Ikshak will take part in the golden jubilee celebrations of Seychelles' National Day on June 29. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will attend as the Guest of Honour during his three-day visit to the archipelago nation, which began on June 27.

Details of Indian Participation

According to an Indian Army official, a contingent of 32 personnel from the Assam Regiment, led by Captain Aryan H Deolekar, is set to march in the celebrations. The Indian Navy will also contribute a marching contingent and a naval band. INS Tarkash arrived in Victoria on June 26 as part of its operational deployment to the south-west Indian Ocean Region, the Navy confirmed in a post on X. The post stated that Tarkash, along with INS Ikshak, will participate in the golden jubilee celebrations with a marching contingent and naval band, highlighting #BridgesofFriendship and #MaritimeCooperation.

India and Seychelles share long-standing historical ties that have evolved into a strong strategic partnership encompassing defence, development, culture, and trade. The Indian Army noted that participation in national celebrations of friendly foreign countries symbolizes mutual trust and military camaraderie, reinforcing defence cooperation and India's role as a reliable partner in the Indian Ocean Region. The Navy spokesperson added that the vessels' visit underscores the enduring maritime partnership and close friendship between India and Seychelles.

Indian armed forces contingents have previously represented the nation at prominent international events, including the 237th Bastille Day Parade in France in 2023, the Victory Day Parade in Bangladesh in 2021, and the Victory Day Parade in Russia in 2015 and 2020. The Army stated that India's participation in Seychelles' golden jubilee reaffirms the special partnership and highlights growing bilateral engagement across diverse sectors.

PM Modi is on a three-day visit to Seychelles starting June 27, during which he will hold talks with President Patrick Herminie. Modi last visited Seychelles in 2015. The visit underscores the deep-rooted historical, cultural, and people-to-people ties between the two nations.
