India has officially stated it is closely observing the political situation in neighboring Bangladesh. This comes as Tarique Rahman, the son of former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, has returned to the country ahead of the general elections scheduled for February 2026.

In a strong statement issued on Friday, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) also voiced deep apprehension over the safety of minority communities in Bangladesh. Official spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal highlighted that independent sources have documented a disturbing over 2,900 incidents of violence against minorities. These reported cases include killings, arson attacks, and illegal land grabbing.
"The unremitting hostility against minorities in Bangladesh is a matter of great concern," Jaiswal stated. He explicitly condemned the recent killing of a Hindu youth and emphasized India's expectation that the perpetrators would be swiftly brought to justice.
A Pattern of Alarming Violence
The MEA's comments follow a series of brutal attacks that have shaken the Hindu community in Bangladesh. On Thursday, 29-year-old Amrit Mandal was lynched in the Rajbari district, according to local police reports cited by The Daily Star newspaper.
This tragic event occurred just days after another horrific murder. Dipu Chandra Das, a Hindu youth, was barbarically killed in the Mymensingh region. These back-to-back incidents have intensified fears about the security and rights of religious minorities in the country.
