India Intensifies Diplomatic Efforts for Safe Passage of Ships in Strait of Hormuz
The Indian government is actively engaged in discussions with Iranian authorities to secure the safe exit of Indian vessels navigating through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz. This move comes in response to heightened tensions in the region, with New Delhi placing paramount importance on the safety and security of its mariners and ensuring unimpeded maritime transit.
Ongoing Communication and Diplomatic Outreach
External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, addressing reporters on Monday, confirmed that several Indian ships are currently in the Persian Gulf. The government has been in close and continuous communication with Iran and other relevant parties to facilitate their safe passage. Jaiswal highlighted that when a firing incident occurred on Saturday, two Indian ships were directly affected, prompting immediate and strong diplomatic action.
Immediate Diplomatic Response to the Incident
Upon receiving reports of the firing, Indian authorities swiftly escalated the matter. The Iranian ambassador was summoned for a meeting with the Foreign Secretary, where India conveyed its deep concerns over the incident. During this discussion, the Foreign Secretary reiterated India's firm stance on the critical importance of safety for commercial shipping and mariners, emphasizing the necessity for unobstructed transit through the Strait of Hormuz.
Continuous Monitoring and Support from Shipping Ministry
In parallel, the Shipping Ministry is maintaining close and continuous contact with the crew and owners of the affected vessels. The ministry is closely monitoring the situation on a real-time basis and has assured that all possible assistance will be extended to ensure the well-being of those involved and the security of the ships.
This proactive approach underscores India's commitment to safeguarding its maritime interests and personnel in volatile regions, with ongoing efforts focused on diplomatic resolutions and operational support.
