India has adopted a 'holistic' approach to migration governance, as stated by Minister of State Kirti Vardhan Singh during his address at the United Nations. He emphasized that the contribution of the Indian diaspora through remittances, investments, and knowledge exchange continues to play a vital role not only in India's development but also in the countries where they have integrated.
Speaking at the UN, Singh highlighted the multifaceted benefits of migration, underscoring how the Indian government’s comprehensive strategy ensures that migration is safe, orderly, and beneficial for all stakeholders. The holistic approach encompasses legal frameworks, skill development, and social protection for migrants, as well as leveraging their potential for national growth.
The minister noted that remittances from the diaspora form a significant part of India's foreign exchange earnings, while their investments boost entrepreneurship and infrastructure. Knowledge exchange, including technology transfer and expertise sharing, further strengthens bilateral ties between India and host nations.
Singh also reiterated India's commitment to international cooperation on migration issues, aligning with global frameworks such as the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration. He called for collective efforts to address challenges like human trafficking and exploitation, ensuring migrants' rights are protected.
