A severe cold wave tightened its grip on the India-Pakistan international border adjoining Jaisalmer, with night temperatures plummeting to around the freezing point of 0°C. Dense fog has severely reduced visibility across several stretches, creating challenging conditions for security forces.
BSF Personnel Stand Firm in Sub-Zero Chill
Despite the harsh weather, Border Security Force (BSF) personnel continued their round-the-clock surveillance and border security duties without fail. The border area is experiencing intense cold accompanied by thick fog and mist, which at times limits visibility to just a few feet. Strong desert winds have further exacerbated the situation, making night hours particularly grueling for the deployed troops.
In Jaisalmer city, the minimum temperature was recorded at 3.3°C. Officials confirmed that while the severe cold has disrupted daily life in many parts of the country, the extreme conditions along the border have not dampened the morale of the BSF jawans. Both male and female soldiers remain steadfast at their posts, performing their duties in sub-zero wind chill conditions.
Advanced Tech Aids Surveillance in Poor Visibility
A reporter at the border confirmed that temperatures along the boundary had dropped to around 0°C, with biting winds sweeping across the desert terrain. The persistent dense fog continues to pose significant challenges to visibility. However, officials stated that surveillance is being rigorously maintained using technical resources and advanced equipment.
Inspector General of BSF Rajasthan Frontier, M L Garg, addressed the situation, stating that the border area is currently in the grip of severe cold, fog, and mist. "Fog has created difficulties in border surveillance, but we have put additional security arrangements in place," he said. Garg added that personnel are effectively conducting surveillance using night vision devices and other advanced equipment. He assured that the BSF headquarters is providing all necessary support to protect soldiers from the extreme cold.
The unwavering commitment of the BSF under such trying circumstances highlights their dedication to national security, ensuring the border remains secure despite nature's formidable challenges.
