In a significant push to position Uttar Pradesh as India's premier wellness destination, the state government has announced attractive financial incentives including a 30% capital subsidy for establishing wellness centers and resorts, particularly around popular spiritual circuits.
Comprehensive Incentive Package for Investors
The Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department has rolled out a comprehensive incentive package that goes beyond the 30% capital subsidy. According to the scheme announced on November 8, 2025, investors will also benefit from exemptions on stamp duty, waiver of land conversion and development charges, and financial assistance for employees as per the existing Tourism Policy.
The government has invited proposals from both individuals and institutions to establish facilities that would provide naturopathy and specialized AYUSH-based therapies including Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha, and Homoeopathy.
Focus on Spiritual-Wellness Integration
The strategic move aims to combine Uttar Pradesh's thriving spiritual tourism industry with the growing wellness sector. "Our focus is to combine Uttar Pradesh's spiritual and cultural identity with modern wellness practices," stated Tourism Minister Jaiveer Singh.
The minister emphasized that the state has "the potential to become a national hub for health and rejuvenation tourism." The initiative specifically targets spiritual destinations including Varanasi, Ayodhya, Mathura-Vrindavan, Chitrakoot, Sarnath, Shravasti, and Kapilvastu.
Detailed Requirements for Wellness Facilities
The government has outlined specific requirements for the proposed wellness facilities. For wellness centres, the minimum requirement includes five therapy rooms providing specialized AYUSH-based therapies. For wellness resorts, developers need to establish facilities on minimum of one acre of land with twenty rooms and dedicated therapy areas.
An official explained the broader vision: "These will be part of experience-based tourism... these wellness centers will be promoted not just as centres for physical healing but also mental peace and overall well-being, providing a mindful natural living experience."
The government's strategy responds to the increasing tourist footfall at popular spiritual destinations and aims to encourage longer stays while promoting the state as a "wellness and spiritual rejuvenation hub."
International Promotion Plans
To amplify the state's positioning as a wellness destination, the government is planning an International Yoga Conclave as an annual event. This initiative aims to promote Uttar Pradesh not just nationally but "globally as a wellness destination," according to officials.
The comprehensive approach combines infrastructure development with international marketing, creating a sustainable ecosystem for wellness tourism that leverages Uttar Pradesh's rich spiritual heritage and growing tourist infrastructure.
