Leh sees first snowfall, temperature dips to -2°C

The picturesque town of Leh in Ladakh awoke to a magical transformation on Sunday, receiving its first snowfall of the season. The early winter shower blanketed the entire landscape, turning it into a pristine white wonderland.

A Scenic Transformation Across the Region

Thick layers of snow covered trees, houses, and boundary fences, marking a dramatic shift in the region's weather. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Leh recorded a minimum temperature of -2°C. The snowy spectacle wasn't confined to Leh alone. In Sonamarg, located in the Ganderbal district, residents and tourists alike were treated to stunning snowy vistas. Vehicles, buildings, and roads disappeared under a fresh coat of snow, prompting spontaneous joy and outdoor activities.

Tourists Revel in the Winter Delight

Visitors wasted no time in embracing the wintry conditions. Many were seen engaging in lively snowball fights and taking refreshing morning walks to soak in the breathtaking scenery. The atmosphere was one of pure delight, especially for those who had hoped to witness snowfall during their trip.

A tourist hailing from Assam expressed his excitement, stating that they enjoyed the snow right after leaving their hotel in the morning. He mentioned the need to wear double layers and caps to combat the chill but emphasized that the snowfall was a much-anticipated event that significantly enhanced their visit.

Another frequent visitor, Gagan from Punjab, shared his observations. Having visited many times, he noted the absence of snow last year. "This year, it seems like snowfall might happen in December, which would be great," he said. He encouraged other tourists to visit, assuring them of the warm hospitality from locals and the overall safety in the region, despite a perceived dip in tourist numbers.

Cold Wave Grips the Valley

Meanwhile, the cold wave continues to tighten its grip on Jammu and Kashmir. The IMD reported that Srinagar has seen a temperature drop of 4°C since December 20. Despite the persistent chill and heavy fog near the iconic Dal Lake, daily life and tourist activities like boat rides and sightseeing continue. The region is now fully immersed in the deep winter season, offering a unique and captivating experience for all.
