In a major winter travel disruption, budget carrier IndiGo has been forced to cancel more than 60 flights across several major Indian airports. The widespread cancellations, impacting key hubs like Delhi, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, were announced on December 21, 2025, due to severe weather conditions affecting visibility.
Weather Woes Ground Flights
The airline issued a formal travel advisory on its official X handle, citing low visibility and dense fog over Bengaluru and Amritsar as the primary reasons for the schedule meltdown. IndiGo stated that its teams are closely monitoring the weather and working to minimise passenger inconvenience while prioritising safety.
The advisory requested travellers to stay updated on their flight status via the airline's official link and assured full support from ground staff. "We're keeping a close watch on the weather and doing our best to get you where you need to be, safely and smoothly," the airline's message read, thanking passengers for their patience.
List of Cancellations and Worst-Hit Hub
The list of cancelled flights is extensive, covering numerous domestic routes. Among the affected services are flights connecting Hindon-Chennai, Patna-Hindon, Delhi-Nagpur, Kolkata-Ranchi, and Delhi-Amritsar, along with many others. The cancellations have severed connections between metro cities and smaller towns.
Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) in Delhi emerged as the epicentre of the disruptions. A significant number of the cancelled flights were to and from the national capital, linking it with Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Kolkata, Pune, and Nagpur. Other major airports like Kempegowda International Airport (Bengaluru) and Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (Hyderabad) also reported multiple cancelled services.
Passenger Options and Seasonal Challenges
For affected passengers, IndiGo has provided a standard recourse. In a separate notification, the airline informed that in case of cancellation, travellers can conveniently rebook their tickets or claim a full refund online through the dedicated portal goindigo.in/plan-b.html.
Such operational challenges are, unfortunately, a recurring seasonal hazard. The month of December in North India is notoriously difficult for airlines due to persistent fog and haze, which drastically reduce runway visibility. These conditions are a normal annual phenomenon and have historically led to similar large-scale flight delays and cancellations across the region.
The airline's advisory concluded on a hopeful note, wishing for clearer skies while reiterating the importance of passengers checking only official channels for real-time updates. Travelers are strongly urged to factor in potential weather-related delays while planning their journeys during this period.
