Residents and tourists in Himachal Pradesh are enjoying a welcome spell of sunshine after a day of overcast conditions and light snowfall in the high mountains. The state's weather has taken a pleasant turn, with the meteorological department forecasting clear skies to dominate for the coming days.
Sunny Spell and Upcoming Weather Change
The weather office in Shimla has predicted that dry and clear conditions will persist across Himachal Pradesh until Wednesday, December 27. This period of sunshine offers ideal conditions for travel and outdoor activities in the hill state. However, a change is on the horizon. The forecast indicates a possibility of light rain and snowfall in the high-altitude regions of the state on Thursday, December 28, which could affect areas situated at higher elevations.
Fog Alert for Specific Districts
While the hills bask in the sun, the weather department has issued an important advisory for some lower areas. They have predicted dense fog in parts of Bilaspur district along the Bhakra Dam reservoir. Additionally, some areas of the Balh valley in Mandi district are also expected to experience thick fog. This advisory is in effect for the next four days, lasting until Tuesday, December 26. Travelers and motorists in these regions are advised to exercise caution.
Temperature Check Across Hill Stations
As the winter season deepens, temperatures have continued to drop, especially during the night. On Monday, Kukumseri in the Lahaul Spiti district recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the state at a chilly -3.1 degrees Celsius. Among popular tourist destinations, the mercury presented a varied picture:
- Manali saw a low of 6.6 degrees Celsius.
- Palampur registered a minimum temperature of 7 degrees Celsius.
- Kufri recorded 8.2 degrees Celsius.
- Dharamshala had a low of 9.6 degrees Celsius.
- The state capital, Shimla, experienced a minimum temperature of 9.8 degrees Celsius.
This mix of sunny days and cold nights is characteristic of the winter season in the Himalayas, offering clear views while requiring warm clothing. Tourists are making the most of the current clear weather window before the potential return of precipitation later in the week.
