The Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) is set to breathe new life into a major tourist attraction. In a strategic move to draw larger crowds, the civic body is planning the grand relaunch of the musical fountain at Mahatma Gandhi Park in Hubballi. The initiative aims to replicate the massive popularity of the iconic musical fountains at Brindavan Garden in Mysuru.
A Technological Marvel Awaits Revival
Originally developed under the Smart City project at a cost of over Rs 4 crore, the fountain initially saw an overwhelming public response. However, interest waned over time, leading to a decline in visitors for its 30-minute shows. The revamped fountain is a feat of modern engineering, featuring an LED laser show and a 3D audio-visual experience projected onto a water curtain. This spectacle is powered by 150 nozzles capable of creating 18 distinct water jet designs, all managed by sophisticated DMX control systems.
New Strategy: More Songs and School Tours
To ensure its revival is a success, HDMC Commissioner Rudresh Ghali has outlined a multi-pronged strategy. The corporation plans to increase the show's duration and add a variety of new songs to the repertoire. More importantly, HDMC will actively reach out to government and private educational institutions to organize school visits, aiming to guarantee a steady stream of visitors. The amphitheatre, with a seating capacity for over 300 people, offers a comfortable venue for these groups and the general public.
Overcoming Past Challenges for a Vibrant Future
The need for a fresh approach became evident after the agency outsourced for the fountain's operation and maintenance struggled with revenue generation due to poor footfall. Learning from this, Commissioner Ghali and HDMC officials are now focused on aggressive promotion. The goal extends beyond mere entertainment; it is about fostering community engagement and boosting regional tourism. By drawing inspiration from Brindavan Garden's success, HDMC envisions transforming Mahatma Gandhi Park into a vibrant hub and a must-visit destination. The relaunch stands as a testament to the city's commitment to cultural enrichment and innovative urban attractions.
