In a strategic move to extend the tourist footprint beyond its famous beaches, the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) has announced the return of its special heritage culture event for the festive season. The one-day Dudhsagar Festavista is scheduled to be held on Christmas Day, December 25, continuing the corporation's initiative from the previous year.
Venue and Vision for the Festival
The primary venue identified for this cultural showcase is the Metawado Ground in Collem, a location in the hinterland near the majestic Dudhsagar Falls. The government aims to utilize a 4,000 square meter plot for the festivities. However, GTDC has indicated that the final location is subject to change, showing flexibility in their planning.
The core objective of the festival is twofold: to celebrate the rich and vibrant cultural tapestry of Goa and to strategically boost tourism in the state's hinterland regions. By hosting a high-profile event near a popular attraction like Dudhsagar Falls, GTDC hopes to attract visitors to explore areas beyond the usual coastal hotspots, which typically experience heavy crowding during the month of December.
Event Highlights and Preparations
Attendees can look forward to a day filled with local color and talent. The event's lineup is set to feature three musical performances, although these are pending necessary government permissions. A key focus will be on highlighting Goan artists, supported by various cultural fillers that will provide a genuine taste of regional heritage.
To ensure smooth execution, GTDC has already initiated the process of setting up the event by reaching out to its empanelled event management agencies. These agencies will be responsible for the end-to-end organization and management of the Dudhsagar Festavista, from setup to operations on the ground.
A Broader Tourism Strategy
This initiative is a clear part of a larger plan to decongest coastal areas and promote sustainable, dispersed tourism. By creating compelling reasons for tourists to venture into the interior parts of Goa, the state aims to provide a more balanced experience while also supporting local economies in those regions. The success of this year's event could pave the way for more such cultural interventions in the future, solidifying Goa's appeal as a destination with diverse offerings from its coast to its countryside.
