Goa Government Proposes Ropeway to Connect Historic Shivaji Forts for Tourism Boost

In a significant move to enhance hinterland tourism, Power Minister Ramkrishna Dhavalikar has revealed that the Goa tourism department is actively considering the development of a ropeway project. This ambitious initiative aims to connect the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj fort located at Farmagudi with the Mardangad fort at Shantinagar and the scenic Siddhanath hills in Borim.

Announcement Made During Shivaji Jayanti Celebrations

Dhavalikar made this exciting announcement during the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti celebrations held at the Farmagudi fort on Thursday. The event, which was organized by the department of information and publicity, saw the participation of several civic body members, highlighting the government's commitment to this cultural and tourism endeavor.

The minister emphasized that the fort's renovation is progressing steadily and is expected to be completed before the next anniversary. In a grand plan, he stated that they intend to invite the Prime Minister to officially unveil the renovated fort, which will not only serve as a historical site but also house a museum dedicated to showcasing Shivaji-era artefacts.

Educational and Cultural Aspects Highlighted

The function also featured keynote speaker Krishnaji Kulkarni, who urged everyone to draw inspiration from the bravery and exemplary governance of Shivaji Maharaj. Adding a cultural touch to the event, school children recited traditional ballads that praised the legacy of the great Maratha emperor, reinforcing the historical significance of the forts.

This ropeway project is poised to transform the tourism landscape in Goa by providing easier access to these remote historical sites, thereby promoting hinterland tourism and preserving the rich cultural heritage of the region.
