Six Cottages Gutted in Fire at Goa's Ashvem Beach Resort, No Casualties Reported
In a distressing incident less than two weeks after a fire ravaged six private shacks at Arambol beach, a blaze erupted at the Dallas Beach Resort in Ashvem, Goa, on Thursday night, completely destroying six of its wooden cottages. The fire, which was reported around 8:45 PM, rapidly spread through the resort's structures located near the Ajoba temple, causing extensive damage to the property.
Timely Evacuation Prevents Injuries
Authorities have confirmed that there were no fatalities or injuries in the incident, thanks to a swift evacuation. Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar stated that tourists occupying some of the cottages immediately vacated the premises upon noticing the fire. The resort, which began operations three years ago and featured a total of 12 cottages, saw significant destruction, but all guests were safely accounted for.
Firefighting Efforts and Cause Investigation
Firefighters from the Pernem and Mapusa fire stations were promptly dispatched to the scene and worked tirelessly to douse the flames. A local resident at the site described the rapid spread of the fire, attributing it to the wooden construction of the structures, which included plywood flooring and plastic fittings. Preliminary investigations by the directorate of fire and emergency services suggest that the fire may have originated from a short circuit in the resort's generator set.
Mandrem police also arrived to assist in cordoning off the area and managing the crowd, while officials are conducting a detailed panchanama to assess the extent of the loss. This incident follows a similar fire at Arambol beach just 15 days prior, raising serious concerns about fire safety compliance at wooden beachside establishments in the region.
